Masters of the Universe fans were greeted by some exciting news when they checked their phones this morning, that their beloved loin cloth wearing musclebound heroes will be making a comeback.
This news comes as a huge surprise for everyone as there haven’t been any rumblings of an animated reboot, but perhaps the biggest surprise of all is that it will be handled by Clerks and Mallrats director Kevin Smith.
According to sources coming out of this weekend’s Power-Con, Smith will act as showrunner for the new series, which will be known as Masters of the Universe: Revelation. The project will be a Netflix original, with art by the team behind the much applauded Castlevania series. It will pick up right where the original TV series left off.
Speaking to press Smith said:
“In Revelation, we pick up right where the classic era left off to tell an epic tale of what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor! Brought to life with the most metal character designs Powerhouse Animation can contain in the frame, this is the Masters of the Universe story you always wanted to see as a kid!”
Whether this will tie into the on-going She-Ra Netflix series is still not known, however looking at the proposed animation style seen in the promotional image (below), we would imagine the two might run separately from each other as Revelation appears to have an edgier feel to it.
At press time no release date has been announced, but we’ll be following this one very closely.
All together now: I HAVE THE POWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRR!!!
