Groundhog Day – Movie Deal of the Week

This week’s digital movie deal of the week is the classic Harold Ramis comedy Groundhog Day which is currently available to purchase from £4.99. Check out the original trailer below:

We all feel like it’s Groundhog Day at some point in our lives, but what would you do in an endless eternity?

This week’s pick is an absolute classic and one of our favourite films of all time. The premise is fairly simple, a man with no direction in his life is trapped in a loop of having to relive the same day again and again but what makes this film is the cast and direction. The late great Harold Ramis (Egon from Ghostbusters) wrote and directed this gem and entrusted his great friend with the lead role, Bill Murray. Bill is so dry his character should be called Death Valley, he’s amazing. He managed to invoke a lot of laughter and emotion in this film, allowing the audience to follow the main character on his rollercoaster.

The supporting cast is great too, Andie MacDowell (Four Weddings and a Funeral) plays her role as the love interest very well, as does the hapless idiot cameraman who can’t get a break played by the excellent Chris Elliot (There’s Something About Mary). These are all topped however by Stephen Toblowsky and his caricature of an insurance salesman, it’s beyond funny.

This isn’t a run of the mill rom-com. It’s funny, it’s poignant and it’s so good @colonelkatafi has watched it probably about 100 times. It also makes you look at your life and think about your own mortality but in a good way. Pick it up and enjoy!

Official Synopsis:

Bill Murray is at his wry, wisecracking best in this riotous romantic comedy about a weatherman caught in a personal time warp on the worst day of his life. Teamed with a relentlessly cheerful producer (Andie MacDowell) and a smart-aleck cameraman (Chris Elliott), TV weatherman Phil Connors (Bill Murray) is sent to Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, to cover the annual Groundhog Day festivities. But on his way out of town, Phil is caught in a giant blizzard, which he failed to predict, and finds himself stuck in small-town hell. Just when things couldn’t get any worse, they do. Phil wakes the next morning to find it’s Groundhog Day all over again… and again… and again.
