Child’s Play: Chucky Returns in First Trailer for Remake

If there’s one thing we learned from the original Child’s Play movies it’s that whatever you do don’t f*ck with the Chuck. That’s why it came as such a huge surprise when MGM and Orion announced they were remaking the classic killer doll movie.

The biggest shock probably came when fans began to realise that this wouldn’t be a reboot for the OG Chucky, but a complete refresh that would run alongside the original Don Mancini franchise, which as of October 2017 was still alive and kicking and enjoying renewed success with the popular Cult of Chucky movie.

Mancini has been very vocal about how he feels about the new film and has even launched his own counterstrike with the announcement that he’ll be bringing his story to TV for a Child’s Play television series as well as plans to continue the movie series.

Until that happens though we first need to get through this totally unnecessary but intriguing remake, which dropped its first teaser trailer only moments ago. You can check it out below:

Earlier in the week, we were also presented with this in-universe pre-tease tease:

The new movie will feature Aubrey Plaza (Scott Pilgrim vs The World) as the unwitting mother who gifts her son Andy a doll that has no limits to the carnage it is capable of causing. This time there isn’t going to be any possession story, which was the absolute crux of the Mancini films, with the filmmakers instead opting to make the new Chucky a defective doll with built-in AI – so we imagine it’s like Short Circuit with more cuss words.

Chucky returns to theatres June 21st, 2019.
